Kathmandu, Nepal – The death toll from the massive flash floods that hit Nepal on August 26 has risen to more than 1,200, according to the latest figures from the Nepal National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.
Authorities recorded 1,204 deaths across eight areas in the country.
At least 301 people were injured, while nearly 12,000 have been rescued, including more than 200 foreign nationals.
However, more than 4,200 people remain missing, including 583 foreign nationals.
Around 3,900 people have also been displaced and are currently staying in temporary holding camps.
Search and rescue operations remain underway, with more than 21,000 security personnel deployed in affected areas.
Rescue teams from India, China and South Korea are also assisting in the operations.
The Nepali government continues to distribute cash, food and other essential relief supplies to communities affected by the floods.
