PCG CONTAINS OIL SPILL IN MARIVELES, BATAAN

The Philippine Coast Guard has deployed containment equipment after an oil spill affected coastal waters in Mariveles, Bataan.

The incident was reported on November 5 at Sitio Naswe, Barangay Ipag, where around 25 liters of used oil were found covering an estimated 500 square meters of water.

Initial findings suggest the oil may have come from washing activities, but authorities are still verifying its source.

Working with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the PCG deployed seven absorbent booms and 2,200 absorbent pads to contain the spill.

Response teams had installed containment booms along the affected shoreline to prevent the oil from spreading.

They also collected around 800 kilograms of oil-contaminated debris and used absorbent materials, which were placed in 40 sacks for temporary storage.

Cleanup operations are scheduled to resume today, November 6.

The PCG continues to assess the affected area and coordinate with local authorities to limit the environmental impact of the spill.
