NDRRMC RECORDS 51K INDIVIDUALS SUFFERED FROM EFFECTS OF AGHON

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on May 29, that Typhoon Aghon (with an international: Ewiniar) affected more than 51,000 people.

The NDRRMC’s situational report stated that the devastation of Typhoon Aghon affected 16,336 Filipino families or 51,659 individuals in seven regions of the country.

The number of people displaced to evacuation centers increased to 21,225 individuals in 185 centers.

The NDRRMC reported eight persons injured and one person passed away due to the disaster as of May 29, 2024.

However, as Aghon is on its way out of the county, the report confirmed seven deaths, with four confirmed by the police and local governments in Quezon and Misamis Oriental.

The first ever cyclone in the Philippines for this year damaged 22 houses, partially damaging 18 and totally damaging 4.

According to the Department of Agriculture, Aghon’s destruction caused more than PHP 11 million worth of damages to the agricultural sector. The CALABARZON region and MIMAROPA experienced major damage.

As of May 28, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) reported that motorists may now pass on 36 roads, as the agency removed all the debris caused by Typhoon.

Social Welfare Department distributes assistance to the victims

On Tuesday, May 28, residents of Mauban and Pagbilao towns hit by Typhoon Aghon received monetary relief and family food packs (FFPs) from Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Secretary Rex Gatchalian, who is accompanied by local officials from Quezon province.

On the orders of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., Secretary Gatchalian visited Mauban and Pagbilao, two of the most severely affected municipalities in the province of Southern Luzon, to make sure that relief arrived as soon as possible for the residents.

According to Pagasa, on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Typhoon Aghon, internationally known as Ewiniar, is expected to leave the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
