ANOTHER STALWART IN CEBU, RESIGNS AS PDP-LABAN CHAIR

Manila Philippines — Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard “Ahong” Chan has resigned as Party Chairman ang as a member of the Partido Demoktratikong Pilipino – Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).

In Chan’s statement in his social media post, it was not easy for him to decide to leave the position.

But he insisted that he considers his constituents and his city to maintain unity in the entire province of Cebu.

“I have made this difficult decision to resign because I believe it is in the best interests of Lapu-Lapu City to maintain unity with the tri-cities and the province of Cebu. Although Lapu-Lapu City is a highly-urbanized city, we are inter-dependent and inter-connected as One Cebu Island, thus, I firmly believe that we must work harmoniously and strengthen our relationship with our neighboring local government units,” said Chan in a letter.

Cebu Governor Gwen Garcia was the first to leave the party, followed by Mandaue City Mayor Jonas Cortes.

Garcia’s resignation became effective on May 28, and he was followed by Cortes the following day.

It was two days later when Chan resigned.

Cebu, Mandaue and Lapu-lapu are considered tri-cities where prominent leaders in the province live.

It may be remembered that suspended Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama filed a case against Gov. Garcia to the Office of the President for allegedly stopping the construction of Bus terminals in Cebu.

Rama remains the Visayas Vice President of PDP-Laban.

PDP-Laban remains the ruling party of Former President Rodrigo Duterte, it is also the party brought by his daughter Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte in the 2022 national elections.
