70-YEAR OLD BALETE TREE DECLARED 4TH HERITAGE IN PASIG, CITY

PASIG, CITY – The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) declared a
a Balete tree in Pasig City estimated to be 70 years old according to the city government.

According to the Pasig City Public Information Office (PIO), the local government and DENR held a declaration ceremony on July 1 for the tree located in the Maybunga Rainforest Park.

While Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto, he hopes that this heritage tree will be a marker and a reminder to every Pasigueno that nature and history should be protected.

Meanwhile, the City of Pasig now has four heritage trees, the first of which are two at Rizal High School, which are acacia trees, while the third, which is also an acacia tree, can be seen in the Pasig Catholic Cemetery.

Under the DENR program, healthy trees located in Metro Manila that are at least 1 meter in diameter that are at least 50 years old that are also of aesthetic historical or cultural significance will be considered as one or may be nominated as a heritage tree.
