MANILA — Super Typhoon Yagi, locally known as Enteng, intensified early Thursday morning over the South China Sea, according to PAGASA, the state weather agency.
As of 8 a.m., Yagi was carrying sustained winds of 195 kilometers per hour, with gusts reaching up to 240 kph, PAGASA reported.
The typhoon-enhanced southwest monsoon, or “habagat,” will continue to bring heavy to torrential rains across the western parts of Luzon, including Metro Manila, throughout the day.
Severe weather conditions have already led to flooding in several areas of Metro Manila and caused the cancellation of numerous flights.
The Department of Agriculture reported that Typhoon Enteng left behind P350.85 million in damages to the agricultural sector. Meanwhile, the Office of Civil Defense revealed that landslides and flash floods caused by the storm had claimed the lives of at least 15 people, with 21 others still missing as of Wednesday.
Among the victims were a person fatally injured by a collapsing wall, a pregnant woman who died in a landslide, a man who was electrocuted during the floods, and an infant who drowned.
