PNP Set to Deploy 18,000 Officers for Undas Security

MANILA — The Philippine National Police (PNP) announced on Monday that it will deploy around 18,000 personnel to secure transportation hubs, major roads, and cemeteries during Undas.

PNP spokesperson Brigadier General Jean Fajardo noted that the police force has a “security template” in place for large recurring events like Undas, when many people travel and gather at cemeteries.

Fajardo also confirmed that regional police directors have the authority to adjust alert levels as needed to ensure security in their areas.

“Nasa 18,802 po ‘yong ating ide-deploy po. At kasama na po sa ating ide-deploy po diyan ‘yong mga ilalagay po natin sa mga police assistance desk sa ating mga memorial parks, at sa mga sementeryo, at pati na rin po sa mga transport terminals to make sure po na maalalayan po natin ‘yong mga kababayan natin na ine-expect po na magbabiyahe,” Fajardo said in a media briefing.

Fajardo added that special augmentations will be in place in typhoon-affected areas, with reserve forces mobilized to support police personnel who are still engaged in recovery and relief efforts.

She also urged the public to take extra precautions when leaving their homes, such as securing doors and windows, using alarms and security cameras if possible, and avoiding posting real-time travel details or personal information online.

The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) announced last week that it is coordinating with the PNP and Highway Patrol Group to prepare for All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.

Local governments have been asked to submit traffic management plans, including schedules for major road closures, to prevent congestion, particularly on routes to cemeteries, said MMDA Traffic Enforcement Group Chief Atty. Victor Nunez.

In addition, 1,257 MMDA personnel will be deployed to handle the surge of passengers. Cebu Pacific is also gearing up for increased travel, expecting nearly one million passengers over the Undas peak period.
