EJ OBIENA BAGS 1ST GOLD IN 2025 CAMPAIGN FROM METZ TOURNEY

Metz, France — Filipino pole vault pride EJ Obiena continues successful return in action following gold finish from recent tournament in France on Saturday.

During the Meeting Metz Moselle Athletor on February 8, 2025, two-time Filipino Olympian Obiena successfully finished the 5.70 meters clearance, securing him the gold medal from the competition.

He was followed by Dutch Vaulter Menno Vloon at silver, who reached the same height clearance but failed on his tie-breaker attempt, while Christopher Nilsen placed third with 5.60 height clearance.

This win marked Obiena’s first gold in his 2025 indoor season campaign, which he officially kicked off during the International Jump Meeting Cottbus 2025 where he finished silver.

This is also his second competition on his official return, following his early withdrawal from his 2024 season campaign due to back injury.

The world’s no. 4 pole vaulter missed the podium, finishing at the seventh rank during the 8-man ISTAF Indoor Tournament in Germany at 5.55 height clearance.

With this, Obiena failed to defend his 2024 ISTAF Indoor title with record-breaking 5.93 meters height clearance.
