500K IN 14.7-M FOREIGN ARRIVALS IN 2024 ARE CHINESE — BI

Manila, Philippines — While the Philippines is still recovering its tourism status, the Bureau of Immigration reported over 14.7 million international arrivals in 2024.

This 14,733,597 tally in 2024 brings the Philippines closer to the 17,085,097 record in 2019—reflecting steady recovery of the country’s tourism sector before the pandemic.

Based on the tally, South Korea remained to be the top source of international arrivals, with 1,761,281 visitors. This was followed by the United States with over 1,325,684 arrivals.

China, despite the POGO crackdown, placed third in terms of foreign arrivals with a total of 500,082 inbound travelers.

This number showed an increase from 417,128 in 2023. Last month, over 313,000 Chinese arrivals were recorded by the Immigration bureau.

On the other hand, other key countries in the higher foreign arrivals last year are from Japan, Australia, Canada, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, India, and Singapore

“The return of international arrivals to near pre-pandemic levels is a testament to the Philippines’ appeal as a top destination. The BI remains committed to streamlining and modernizing our entry procedures to support this momentum while upholding border security,” said BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado.
