Biliran, Philippines — The Provincial Government of Biliran (PLGU-Biliran) has denied allegations of public fund misuse in connection with an independent online portal, calling the claims false and malicious.
In an official statement, the provincial government clarified that the online portal is privately owned and has no connection, authorization, or affiliation with the Provincial Government of Biliran, its official website, or its verified Facebook page.
The PLGU also emphasized that no public funds have been allocated or used for the development, maintenance, or operation of the website.
According to the statement, the portal allegedly used headings, layouts, and seals similar to those of the official provincial website without the knowledge or consent of the local government, which may have caused public confusion.
The provincial government said it is now exploring legal action under the Cybercrime Prevention Act and the Intellectual Property Code against the developers of the website and the social media account that published the allegations.
The PLGU-Biliran also urged the public to rely only on the province’s official and verified online platforms for legitimate government information and transactions.—Psalm Axl Perez, Contributor
