BONOAN’S HEALTH ‘SLOWLY IMPROVING’ AMID BLOOD PRESSURE HIKE FOLLOWING ARREST — PNP

Manila, Philippines — In a resolution dated June 1, the Sandiganbayan Fifth Division ordered the issuance of arrest warrants for individuals implicated in the flood control corruption anomaly.

Among them is Senator Jinggoy Estrada who was arrested at the Seante yesterday for a plunder case.

A slight tension also sparked between DILG secretary Jonvic Remulla and Senator Alan Peter Cayetano amidst arresting officers’ attempt to serve the arrest order.

Estrada has since surrendered to authorities.

Aside from Estrada, among the individuals issued with the arrest orders are former Department of Public Works and Highways Secretary Manuel Bonoan, and ex-DPWH NCR engineering officials assistant district engineer Denryl Caesar Cortuna, as well as district engineers Manny Bulusan and Arturo Gonzales, Jr.

Bonoan and Cortuna have also surrendered to the police.

After he was processed by the PNP-CIDG, Bonoan was rushed to the hospital after his blood pressure increased at 170/100.

In a statement on Tuesday, PNP confirmed that Bonoan’s health has improved since, and that the former secretary is concious and coherent.

He had no complaints of headache, diziness, or other immediate distress.

On Tuesday after, Bonoan was discharged and went to the Sandiganbayan in a wheelchair for the return of his arrest and for the arraignment.

He has appealed for a hospital arrest.

Last week, Bonoan posted bail for the graft case regarding the same allegations, while the latest plunder case has no bail.
