Manila, Philippines — On the 2nd quarter of 2026, more Filipino families considered themselves as poor, OCTA research reported.
Based on the Tugon ng Masa Survey conducted from July 4 to 11, self-rated is recorded at 39%—equivalent to 10.3 million Filipino families that classify themselves as poor.
This is 4% higher than the 35% rating in March 2026.
Self-rated poverty is highest in Mindanao at 58%, followed by Visayas at 46%, Balance Luzon at 33%, and 18% in National Capital Region.
18% said they are not poor, while 42% said that they are neither.
RISE IN SELF RATED HUNGER
In the same survey, OCTA research also reported an increase in the self-rated hunger in the country.
From the 17% in March, self-rated hunger rose to 21% in the 2nd quarter of 2026.
This is equivalent to 5.6 million Filipino families that experienced hunger during this period.
In this number, 66% experienced hunger once, while 19% experienced hunger several times.
Self-rated hunger is the highest in Balance Luzon at 27%, followed by NCR at 19%, 17% at Visayas, and 14% in Mindanao.
Meanwhile, 28% or about 7.4 million families are food poor, or in which individuals and households struggle to obtain sufficient food for their needs.—Mia Layaguin, Eurotv News
