Manila Philippines – The Makabayan Bloc is calling on for current administration should stop sending the military troops to the West Philippine Sea.
According to Kabataan Partylist Raoul Manuel, the West Philippine sea should be demilitarized, which is causing an increase in tension in the region.
“Kaya naman dapat ang call natin ay ma-demilitarize ang West Philippine Sea,” Manuel said in press conference held in House of the Representatives.
He said the Philippines should also refrain from entering the United States and prioritize its own interests when it comes to the country’s geopolitical aspirations.
“Tapos huwag nang ito sakyan ng mga bansang gaya ng US para din i-advance yung kanilang sariling geopolitical goals,” Manuel added.
In the study released by OCTA research, majority of Filipinos want to have a military presence in the West Ph Sea where 73% are in favor of it.
While 72% wants diplomacy in the occupied territory.
According to Manuel, this is due to the ongoing normalization of Balikatan exercises in Philippine waters.
He noted that this is contrary to what is stated in the constitution to renounce any war as part of the desire for peace in the region.
