Manila, Philippines — On the 14th day of the impeachment trial against Vice President Sara Duterte, the prosecution presented yet another witness on the first article of impeachment on the alleged misuse of confidential and intelligence funds of the OVP and DepED under her tenure.
Noting the recent developments on the proceedings, majority of Filipinos believe that it is still to early to tell whether Duterte should be impeached or should retain the position.
Based on the July Tugon ng Masa survey of OCTA Research, 55% of Filipinos believed that this is way too early to pre-judge the resolution of the case.
This same percentage shares the position that more evidence should be presented before Duterte’s cases are judged for resolution.
The highest of this percentage came from Balance Luzon (58%), followed by the National Capital Region (56%), Visayas (53%), and Mindanao (48%).
Based on the same survey, 21% of Filipinos agree that the cases against Duterte must be dismissed.
The highest percentage came from Mindanao (48%)—a Duterte territory.
Meanwhile, 17% said that Duterte should be impeached.
OCTA research noted that these results reflect that most Filipinos want an evidence-based judgement for an impeachment trial.
It can be recalled that in April’s survey, 74% of Filipinos support the Senate’s conduct of an impeachment trial.
The survey was conducted from July 4 to 11, with 1,200 participants nationwide.
