MARCOS ADMIN PREPS 48TH ASEAN SUMMIT, WITH TOP PRIORITIES ON ENERGY, FOOD SECURITY

Manila, Philippines – President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has convened a cabinet meeting to discuss preparations for the 48th Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Summit and Related Meetings scheduled from May 6 to May 8. 

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), priority agendas such as energy, food security, and protection of ASEAN Nationals will be discussed at the upcoming ASEAN Summit. 

Also, whole-government coordination to ensure the cohesive and effectiveness of the Philippines’ chair of ASEAN this year. 

According to the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Sec. Dave Gomez, the government is already laying out the agenda items that may be discussed by ASEAN Member States. 

The deliverables included is the safe mobility of ASEAN nationals being stranded in the Middle East Conflict. 

Before the scheduled senior ASEAN Member State officials summit scheduled for May 8, officials from each Southeast Asian country will hold a private meeting. 

According to the PCO, Marcos will also meet with the leaders of Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia, and Malaysia for a special summit in Cebu. 

Earlier, ASEAN leaders assured of a response to the threat of a crisis brought about by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
