Manila, Philippines – The Malacañang Palace reiterated that the current administration recognizes Senator Win Gatchalian as acting Senate President compared to Senate President Allan Peter Cayetano.
According to Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro, this is because it is anchored in current jurisprudence and parliamentary practice in the Senate.
Gatchalian was appointed as acting Senate President and Senate Pro Tempore during the minority session held Wednesday, after the completion of twelve senators, which allowed the Senate to proceed with a quorum.
According to the Palace, President Bong Bong Marcos is open to a special senate session if requested by the Senate.
This follows Marcos’ call for the upper chamber of Congress to do their job, after the majority boycotted the Senate resulting from the minority walkout during the ongoing remote participation vote.
Amid the different factions in the Senate, the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee led by Senator Pia Cayetano and Senator Rodante Marcoleta were proceeded on Thursday.
Gatchalian, however, encouraged the 18 ex-marines to attend the June 8 flood control probe of the Senate, so that their testimonies can be recognized and recorded as official committee proceedings.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
