67,504 young Filipinos are expected to benefit from the expanded scholarship programs under the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in 2027.
This comes after President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. approved the P8.67 billion funding under the national budget for Fiscal Year 2027.
This marked a 3.70% increase in the budget to support young Filipinos that want to pursue careers in science, technology, engineering, research, and innovation.
In this amount, P7.55 billion is set to be allocated for the DOST-Science Education Institute that provides undergraduate and graduate scholarships, and advanced specialized training to strengthen science education and technology culture in the country.
P1.12 billion is proposed for the Philippines Science Highschool System to continue providing specialized secondary education in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics.
Marcos acknowledged the significance of enhancing the skills of young Filipinos in the STEM track towards the country’s technological transformation.
