OFW UPDATES: NEW BATCH OF DISTRESSED OFWs FROM SAUDI SAFETY RETURNS TO PH

Manila, Philippines – A new batch of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) from Jeddah, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia safely returned home to the Philippines Monday night.

The group arrived via Flight SV 870, composed of 19 OFWs and a child.

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) reported that 12 of these repatriates were distressed OFWs that stayed in Bahay Kalinga shelters, after being subjected to unfortunate situations during their overseas employment.

After these encounters, these OFWs reach out for assistance and request for a repatriation.

As soon as they arrived, the OFWs were provided with immediate assistance from DMW and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), aside from the financial and transportation assistance for their return to their provinces.

DMW also offers reintegration programs for Filipino returnees as they resettle in the Philippines.

Last week, 49 distressed OFWs from Saudi have also returned to the Philippines.

OFW UPDATES: 12 OFWs IN HONGKONG RECEIVES P949K CASH ASSISTANCE

In HongKong, the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) released over P949,000 financial assistance to 12 Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) who were beneficiaries under the Department of Migrant Workers(DMW)-AKSYON fund.

These OFWs were beneficiaries and were diagnosed with severe illnesses like breast and cervical cancer, lymphoma, and severe heart attack.

Under the newly released fund, each of them received P75,000 each to assist their treatment.

Medical financial assistance is just one of the various assistance provided under AKSYON fund, aimed at ensuring health and welfare of Filipino overseas workers.

Aside from medical assistance, the MWO also offers legal, repatriation, remains shipment and other intervention assistance under the AKSYON fund.

MWO encourages other OFWs in HongKong who are under distress or are seeking assistance to visit their HongKong Office to avail guidance and other support from the office.—Mia Layaguin, Eurotv News
