DMW REASSURES SERVICE FOR OFWS IN UAE

Manila, Philippines – The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has reaffirmed its support for our compatriots overseas Filipino workers in the United Arab Emirates.

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac led the dialogue with the Filipino community in Dubai.

The gathering was held on August 31 at the Swissôtel Al Ghurair, Dubai, attended by the Philippine Embassy in Abu Dhabi, Consulate General in Dubai, and Migrant Workers Offices.

Filipino leaders and workers shared their grievances, including problems with the Online Contract Verification System or OCVS, cases of confiscation of passports and contracts of some domestic workers, and a call for the “Know Your Employer” safeguard to remain for transparency and protection.

In response, DMW gave a live demonstration of how the OCVS works and assured that its capacity will be expanded to serve more users.

DMW and our diplomatic posts have pledged to continue the reforms and services that OFWs truly feel in line with the aspiration of the New Philippines to provide “red carpet, not red tape” services for Filipinos abroad.

The KYC requirement will also remain in place to maintain the accountability and protection of our workers.—JC Pancho, Contributor
