TYPHOON OPONG CAUSES P31M WORTH OF DAMAGE IN MASBATE PROVINCE

Masbate, Philippines – According to a partial report released by Masbate Governor Richard Kho, a total of 157,849 individuals and 44,536 families remain affected by the typhoon as of September 29.

Around 9,006 houses were partially damaged, while 2,437 were totally destroyed.

In terms of infrastructure, the typhoon caused an estimated P31,496,443 in damages across the province.

According to the governor, there’s no denying that Opong severely affected Masbate Province as many trees and electric posts are fallen, damaged homes, flying roof sheets, impassable roads, and widespread flooding.

At present, the provincial government of Masbate is coordinating with national agencies for the distribution of food items to all municipalities under its jurisdiction.

They are also conducting extensive road clearing operations, and working to restore electricity, water supply, and internet connectivity.

However, the province is still in need of additional assistance.

Masbate had earlier declared a State of Calamity due to the extent of the damage caused by Typhoon Opong.

It can be recalled that Masbate Province was one of the hardest-hit areas when the typhoon struck last week.
