FILSEAFER DIED IN SEPT. 26 ATTACK ON THE MV MINERVAGRACHT IN THE GULF OF ADEN — DMW

Manila, Philippines – A Filipino seafarer of the MV Minervagracht died after sustaining serious injuries following an attack by Houthi militants on a Dutch-flagged cargo vessel in the Gulf of Aden on September 29. 

Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac himself confirmed the death of a Filipino seafarer. 

Cacdac is now headed to Djibouti with the Philippine Embassy, ​​Department of Foreign Affairs, and the shipowner to arrange for the repatriation of the remains of the Filipino. 

The official will also visit other seafarers who were injured and are still recovering in the hospital. 

The secretary is accompanied by the wife and sister of the deceased crew member. 

The DMW has also extended its condolences to the bereaved Filipino’s family. 

Based on the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., the government will provide full support and assistance to the family of the victim.
