ZERO CRIME RATE DURING TYPHOON ‘UWAN’ – PNP

Manila, Philippines – The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported zero crimes in the 28,008 evacuation centers they monitored in the onslaught of Super Typhoon ‘Uwan’ in the Philippines over the weekend.

According to the PNP they received no reports of looting or other crimes from the evacuation centers, 9,853 of which were utilized by the affected regions.

PNP Acting Chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez Jr. was informed that a total of 1.4 million people were evacuated and stayed in these evacuation centers, which are being managed by government agencies and LGUs.

Data released by PNP spokesperson Brig. Gen. Randulf Tuańo shows that 21,682 police officers were deployed to assist with security and conduct search and rescue operations in four regions of the Philippines.

The PNP has already conducted 62 search and rescue and retrieval operations, during which 10,912 individuals were brought to safety.

During his visit to the PNP Command Center last Monday, Nartatez monitored the police operations and response measures in the typhoon-affected areas.

Nartatez coordinated with the personnel on duty to get the latest updates and provide directives to maintain smooth coordination with local government units, government agencies, and responders.

The chief PNP emphasized the importance of continuous preparedness even after the typhoon has passed and reminded everyone that true leadership is measured not only during the crisis but in the continuous assistance during the recovery phase.

The PNP assured the public that all regional and provincial offices continue to coordinate with the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) and other government agencies to ensure a smooth, prompt, and responsive action to any effects of the typhoon across the country.
