LTFRB MONITORS IMPLEMENTATION OF P12/L FUEL DISCOUNT IN METRO MANILA GAS STATIONS

Manila, Philippines — To directly address the ongoing economic challenges faced by public utility drivers, Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board Chairman Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II conducted surprise spot checks across Metro Manila gasoline stations on August 16, 2026.

Specifically, these targeted visits were carried out to evaluate on the ground operational workflow, resolve potential technical delays, and guarantee that public transport workers seamlessly receive their government mandated price reductions.

Meanwhile, regional offices nationwide were mobilized under the directive of Department of Transportation Secretary Giovanni Z. Lopez to establish a continuous daily monitoring system across all participating fuel hubs.

Furthermore, this financial relief effort was expanded and raised from P10 to P12 per liter in direct fulfillment of President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.’s pledge to provide support for the transport industry.

Initial inspection results revealed that eight out of ten surveyed stations actively implementing the scheme, drivers who combine the state subsidy with local station loyalty promos can secure up to P17 per liter in total discounts, reducing pump costs to P64–P72 per liter.

As a result, more than 143,000 registered jeepney and UV Express units across 5,000 participating stations stand to save roughly P1,800 weekly on their 150-liter allowance by simply presenting their vehicle plate numbers at the pump.

To sustain partner cooperation, the LTFRB partnered with LandBank and the Department of Energy for a streamlined online tracking system while actively preparing credit memos to ensure prompt reimbursement to all participating fuel stations.—Lance Enriquez, Contributor
