SEN. MARCOS DECLINES MAJORITY LEADER POST; OMBUDSMAN, DOJ ALLEGEDLY BUILDING CASES VS ‘SOLID 13’

Manila, Philippines — Presidential sister and Senator Imee Marcos on Wednesday (May 27, 2026) said she declined the offer to become the next Senate Majority Leader, admitting the job is far from easy amid the ongoing issues of the chamber.

Under the Senate’s new leadership, Senator Joel Villanueva is currently designated as the acting Majority Leader. However, his appointment cannot be finalized yet due to a pending case filed against him regarding alleged flood control anomalies in Bulacan.

According to Marcos, all new developments in the Senate—particularly regarding the anticipated impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte—will likely be clarified on Monday.

While the current majority bloc refers to themselves as the “Solid 13,” there are growing concerns that their numbers could divide. This stems from a series of cases being filed against their members including the latest cases filed before the Ombudsman against Villanueva and Senator Jinggoy Estrada.

When asked why the Senate currently appears chaotic and why the majority and minority blocs cannot seem to agree.

Rumors are also swirling about another potential shake-up in the Senate leadership. The names of Senators Panfilo “Ping” Lacson and Sherwin Gatchalian are reportedly floating as top contenders for the Senate Presidency.

Marcos questioned the current political friction, recalling that when “Tito Sen” took the helm, everyone accepted the decision smoothly. She questioned why there is so much chaos now that their faction is in position now.

Furthermore, the senator dropped a bombshell, revealing that individuals from the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Ombudsman have reached out to her. They allegedly disclosed that ten more members of the current Senate majority are next in line to face charges.

Marcos expressed deep concern over this apparent interference by the Executive branch into the Legislative branch, pointing to what she describes as an active “case build-up” targeting the “Solid 13.”
