FPRRD’s ICC TRIAL TO START ON NOVEMBER 30

Manila, Philippines — On Wednesday, May 27, the ICC Trial Chamber III held the first status conference on the confirmed charges against former Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte.

Among the discussions in the status conference are the scheduling order for the trial, disclosure of evidence, witness protection, and victims’ participation in the case.

The Trial Chamber likewise ruled to start the trial on November 30, 2026.

Before the trial, the Chamber also set two more status conferences—on June 23 and July 14.

On June 29, the prosecution is expected to submit the provisional list of the witnesses, while the final list by August 31.

This shall include the evidence, the prosecution’s trial brief, as well as the deadline should they apply for additional incidents regarding the case.

Meanwhile, the Victims’ panels shall submit its trial brief by September 28, while October 30 for the Defense.

In this scheduling, the Trial Chamber III noted that they had to consider the Defense’s appeal in regards to Duterte’s health.

The Chamber likewise ordered Duterte to undergo medical examinations to have an update report on his health and condition.

Under the Rules of Rome Statute, an accused is not allowed to waive his right to appear at the trial.

Aside from these, the Trial Chamber also ordered the registry to set interpretations and translations for the victims during the trial’s opening statement.
