Manila, Philippines — Amidst the still not totally resolved crisis in the Middle East, the national government strengthens its measures to ensure immediate repatriation and support for Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) affected by the tension.
As part of the repatriation efforts, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. ordered the release of an additional P3 billion to fund the repatriation and reintegration program for the displaced Filipino workers in Middle East.
Executive Secretary Ralph Recto noted that this additional funding is to support the repatriation activities—from the post-departure assistance, flights, as well as for their reintegration in the Philippines.
Recto cited the President’s order to ensure that the support for displaced OFWs will not end in the airport.
“Ang utos nya ay hindi pwedeng paglapag dito, bahala na kayo. Ang gusto ng Pangulo, may hatid sa probinsya sa lubhang nangangailangan, at higit sa lahat mga economic opportunities.”
As of June 17, 10,446 Filipinos from different countries in the Middle East region have safely returned to the Philippines since the start of the crisis.
Every Filipino returnee received a standard welcome package from the government, including immediate financial assistance, medical assessment, re-employment guidance, and livelihood services.
Aside from repatriation, the government likewise intensified the reintegration programs for Filipino returnees to ensure their livelihood as they settle in the Philippines.
The Department of Migrant Workers offers the Bayanihan Para sa Balik-bayang Manggagawa National Reintegration Networks and Jobfairs program to secure job opportunities for repatriated workers.
The Overseas Welfare Workers Administration meanwhile has the Balik Pinas, Balik Hanapbuhay Program that provides livelihood aid for Filipino returnees—granting them atleast P20,000 to start up a business.
Recto also assured to open working opportunities for OFWs in other lines of profession like teachers and others.—Mia Layaguin, Eurotv News
