Manila, Philippines — On June 21, CCTV footage circulated on social media concerning a Police Corporal who allegedly threatened a civilian with a firearm in Dapitan City, Zamboanga del Norte.
Official reports identified the suspect as an active PNP member assigned to the Sapang Dalaga Municipal Police Station, while the victim was a 35-year-old construction worker a resident from the same area.
According to Napolcom Regional Office IX the erring cop turned himself in at the Sapang Dalaga MPS and was immediately transferred to the MOCPPO headquarters for proper disposition and his service firearm was confiscated.
A criminal complaint for Grave Threat has already been endorsed to the City Prosecutor’s Office in Dapitan City for regular filing.
In a statement the NAPOLCOM IX said they are closely monitoring the criminal and administrative investigations.
Furthermore, NAPOLCOM IX is maintaining strict and continuous coordination with the Dapitan CPS and the victim to expedite the preparation of formal administrative charges for Grave Misconduct and Conduct Unbecoming of a Police Officer.
NAPOLCOM Commissioner Ralph Calinisan strongly condemn the reported actions of Boquida who has already been relieved from dapitan police.
Calinisan said, there is no place in the police force for behaviors that cause fear and danger to the public and ordered a motu proprio investigation of this matter..
In light of this incident, calinisan issued a stern reminder to all members of the Philippine National Police to strictly uphold and maintain their core values and exercise the utmost discipline, restraint, and professionalism at all times, whether on or off duty.
