AFP CHIEF SET TO RETIRE THIS MONTH, AFTER 41 YEARS IN SERVICE

Manila Philippines – Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. will retire this month, July 21, 2026 after 41 years military service.

Brawner is the first military chief to complete a fixed three year term under Republic Act 11939 who serves 41 years in AFP.

He said in an interview that he’s looking forward to enjoy his civilian life after over decades of service.

“Napakatagal ng 41 years na iyon. I think I deserve to become a civilian, an ordinary citizen. I’m looking forward to that,” Brawner told reporters.

Despite receiving offers from the private sectors, President Ferdinand “Bong Bong” Marcos, did not offer him a new government job yet.

“May offers from the private sector, but from the government ay wala pang offer. Hindi ko pa iniisip yun kasi excited akong magretiro after 41 years, 3 months and 20 days of serving the nation,” Brawner added.

On Tuesday, the chief executive held meetings with the armed forces, two weeks before the retirement of Brawner.
