Manila, Philippines – In a viral video circulating online, Filipino seafarers aboard the Antigua and Barbuda flagged-bulk carrier MV Insane are attending and responding with their co-seafarers, after being injured, due to a drone attack that hit the vessel while sailing off Odessa, Ukraine.
This incident happened as the war between Russia and Ukraine was getting even, which prompted more security threats in Black Sea, especially for vessels.
Filipino seafarers on board are seeking help from the Philippine government for their immediate repatriation as tensions are deteriorating.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) previously said that they are working on the repatriation of Filipinos affected by drone attacks in Black Sea.
During the bilateral meeting of the Panamanian government with the Department of Foreign Affairs, on Saturday, both countries reaffirmed their commitments on leveraging ties on safeguarding the safety of seafarers and nationals operating high-risk zones amid ongoing global geopolitical tensions.
By highlighting the importance of the freedom of navigation guided by the international laws, as both foreign ministers reaffirmed cooperation in securing the maritime industry between both nations.
But during President Marcos’ fifth State of the Nation Address (SONA), the chief executive assured support for Filipinos welfare and safety, affected by the evolving conflict in the Gulf nation and amid war between Russia and Ukraine, those who were killed and are still missing.
