Bohol, Philippines – Mayor Fernando Estavilla, president of the League of Bohol Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)-Bohol Chapter, organized a prayer rally to show its support for Gov. Erico Umentado and other suspended officials.
In a recent order, the Antigraft office said that the Captain’s Peak Garden and Resort in Barangay Canmano in Sagbayan town was allowed to operate even without the required environmental impact assessment, environmental compliance certificate, and special use agreement in protected areas from the Environmental Management Bureau of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).
Estavilla said he was saddened by the decision, which he described as “severe.”
He said the LMP will provide legal assistance to mayors who intend to file a motion and ask the Ombusdman to reconsider its decision. Aside from Aumentado and the mayors, the suspension order also includes 31 barangay chiefs and six members of the barangay council.
