The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported on Monday that 36 people have died due to the combined effects of the habagat, Typhoon Carina, and Tropical Cyclone Butchoy.
The NDRRMC confirmed 14 deaths while the other 22 are pending verification.
Metro Manila recorded the highest number of fatalities with 15, followed by Calabarzon with 10.
The Zamboanga Peninsula reported 4 deaths, while the Bangsamoro region and Central Luzon each reported 2 deaths. The Ilocos Region, Northern Mindanao, and Davao Region each logged one fatality.
Three people remain missing, and 6 have been reported injured, according to the NDRRMC.
The weather disturbances affected approximately 4.5 million people, with around 152,800 seeking refuge in evacuation centers.
Nearly 1,600 houses were damaged due to the severe weather.
The storms caused around P1.6 billion in infrastructure damage and P355.6 million in agricultural losses.
The Department of Health (DOH) also received reports of damage to about 40 barangay health stations and rural health facilities.
Many of these damaged facilities are located in Ilocos, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, Mimaropa, and Calabarzon.
“Madami yung damaged na facilities na affected ang services kasi mostly collapsed ang roof nila,” said Health Secretary Ted Herbosa.
Herbosa stated that the health facilities would be rebuilt promptly using the DOH quick release funds.
The agency is also monitoring for any increase in water-borne diseases following the flooding caused by heavy rains.
“The next wave we’re waiting for is the leptospirosis outbreak because we saw a lot of people, especially in urban Metro Manila, that were swimming together with the rats and the basura… Wala pa [sa ngayon], it takes about a week to get those cases in the hospital,” Herbosa noted.
