IMMIGRATION DEPORTS 98 CHINESE POGO WORKERS

Pasay, Philippines — In adherence to the government crackdown of POGO in the country, the Bureau of Immigration reported on Tuesday successful deportation of 98 Chinese nationals caught on illegal POGO company.

In a press release, BI said that these foreign workers were deported on the evening of February 25, via a chartered flight to Xi’an, China.

The flights were arranged by the Chinese embassy, in line with the nation’s program and efforts in removing and sending home foreign nationals, Chinese workers in this matter, who are involved in illegal POGoO activities.

91 of the recently deported Chinese nationals were among the 450 individuals arrested on January 8 in Parañaque City, while the other seven were from a BI detention facility in Taguig.

As the government pursues crackdown of the illegal POGOS in the country following its total ban, over 500 foreign workers have been apprehended in separate operations since January.  226 of them have already been deported.

Apart from the 98 Chinese nationals, 10 Vietnamese nationals were also deported on the same date, with BI citing the same reason.

With continuous efforts, BI is committed to removing all illegal foreigners working in POGO as soon as possible.

“This is a clear message that the Philippines will not be a safe haven for illegal activities,” BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said.
