Washington, USA – Tensions between the United States and Iran have escalated following renewed attacks between the two countries.
The latest exchange came after the United States struck rocket launchers on Iran’s Larak Island, for the first time since several months.
Iran then said it launched attacks against U.S. bases in Jordan and American military targets in the United Arab Emirates.
And asked whether the latest strikes marked a return to limited or full-scale military operations, US President Donald Trump in a press conference in the Oval Office did not give a direct answer.
Instead, Trump described Iran as a “failed nation,” saying its economy, military and leadership had been severely weakened.
“They’re a failed nation. They’ve got 350% inflation. They have no currency. They’re not paying their soldiers. Their leaders are largely dead. Their navy is gone, their air force is gone, their surveillance equipment is almost entirely gone. That doesn’t mean we won’t smack them. We’ll see what happens,” Trump said.
However Trump clarified that the current situation does not mean Washington would not attack Iran again.
“That doesn’t mean we won’t smack them. We’ll see what happens,” he clarified.
Trump later repeated his description of Iran as a “failed nation” in a post on Truth Social, adding that the country was effectively “dead.”
“Iran is officially a Failed Nation. IT IS DEAD! They have no Navy, they have no Air Force, they have no currency, they are not paying their soldiers or police, Inflation is at 300%, and their leadership is in total disarray and incapable of properly representing the country,” he wrote
This is not the first time that Trump claimed Iran’s weak state as negotiations between them remain fragile.
Iranian leaders have yet to issue a direct response to Trump’s latest remarks but previously stated that Iran remains standing.
