AFP CONFIRMS PRESENCE OF FLOATING STRUCTURE IN SCARBOROUGH SHOAL

Manila, Philippines – The National Task Force for the West Philippine Sea (NTF-WPS) confirmed the information reported by Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner Jr. that there was a presence of a floating structure in the area of ​​Bajo de Masinloc, also known as Scarborough Shoal. 

According to the Task Force, based on aerial monitoring by agencies, it confirms that a 6×6 meter floating structure appears to be the shape of an antenna. 

In the latest imagery obtained by the AFP, likewise have personalities on top of the structure. 

And according to the latest monitoring by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), the platform can be seen in the area of ​​Scarborough Shoal, with individuals on board. 

The government is currently continuing to determine the purpose, implications of the installations and activities of the said structure in the shoal. 

At the same time, the inter-agency are continuing to gather data  to complete and provide an accurate illustration of the situation. 

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) has reportedly taken appropriate diplomatic action against the Chinese government over the illegal presence of the floating structure. 

According to the DFA, the government’s top consideration is to protect the sovereignty, sovereign rights, and jurisdiction of the Philippines. 

Coinciding with the 128th anniversary of the Philippine Navy, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. emphasized the important role of maritime defense in protecting sovereignty, economic lifelines, and stability in the region. 

The president also directed the Philippine Navy to strengthen its capacity and deepen defense cooperation amid evolving security challenges, and protect Manila’s interests in the West Philippine Sea.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
