Manila, Philippines – The 19th ASEAN Committee on the Implementation of the ASEAN Declaration on the Protection and Promotion of the Rights of Migrant Workers (ACMW) discussed the regional bloc’s continued commitment to maintaining the rights, welfare, and protection of migrant workers in the region.
This was one of the focal points of discussion among ASEAN delegates as part of the ASEAN Consensus Action Plan 2026-2030.
According to Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, ASEAN aims to achieve stability, resilience, sustainability, and inclusive growth in the field of services and efforts of migrant workers.
Meanwhile, in conjunction with the commemoration of Filipino Seafarers Day, Foreign Affairs Secretary Ma. Theresa Lazaro paid tribute to the important role of seafarers, amidst the evolving geopolitical conflict.
The DFA and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) signed an agreement for the integration of the eApostille System and the Electronic Certification, Authentication, and Verification system of the Marina.
The purpose of this agreement is to facilitate the processing of seafarers’ documents and to strengthen their integrity and security while abroad.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
