Manila, Philippines — Instead of flooding, a week of heavy rainfall left a massive accumulation of garbage at the Redemptorist Water Channel in Barangay Baclaran, Parañaque City.
The trash was washed ashore from Manila Bay following days of downpours.
The local government of Parañaque, in coordination with the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), is conducting continuous cleanup operations to expedite the clearing of the area.
Local residents reported that this is the largest volume of washed-up garbage they have seen collected in the area.
The Malacañang Palace said Tuesday that the government advises the public to impose stricter protocols on proper waste disposal.
President Marcos instructed agencies to continue the dredging activities to lessen the floodings not just on the area but on the entire region.
