Manila Philippines — The newly appointed ad interim Secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) Hans Leo Cacdac has taken it’s oath at the Malacañang Palace, Monday.
Cacdac formally took his oath before Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
Cacdac has been reappointed by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. as ad interim Secretary of DMW last Friday after the Commission on Appointment bypassed the deliberation on Cacdac’s appointment.
As the second regular session of the lower chamber of Congress has adjourned on May 23, 2024.
Among those who attended Cacdac’s formal oath were DMW senior officials, such as Undersecretaries Bernard P. Olalia and Patricia Yvonne “PY” M. Caunan and Assistant Secretaries Violeta D. Illescas and Felicitas Q. Bay.
Cacdac has already assured that they are be committed to ensure the rights, conditions and protection of overseas Filipino Workers (OFW).
“…we pledge to uphold the mandate entrusted to us by the President and Constitution. We are the primary guardians of the rights, welfare, and protection of our OFWs. With utmost integrity and transparency, we will seek justice for our aggrieved OFWs,” Cacdac said in a statement on Friday.

The new appointed secretary was first appointed as Officer-in-Charge of the DMW, seven months ago when former Secretary Susan “Toots” Ople passed away in August 2023.
He also served as Executive Director V of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), also served as DMW Undersecretary; Executive Director V of the Philippine Employment Administration (POEA); and Undersecretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
President Marcos previously said that Cacdac has demonstrated the trust and confidence in ensuring the well-being of OFWs.
