LTFRB RECOMMENDS SUSPENSION OF DRIVER’S LICENSE INVOLVED IN “BODY-SHAMING”

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) recommended that the Land Transportation Office (LTO) suspend the license of a driver involved in body-shaming.

The recommendation of the LTFRB is in accordance with the Republic Act 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code.

Aside from the license suspension, the driver, Arneto Palisan and the jeepney owner will also be fined fifteen thousand pesos (P 15,000).

In the story of the victim, Joy Gutierrez, the PUJ demoted her on June 7 because of her physique.

Apart from this, the victim was also blamed because the tire of the jeep allegedly got flat when she was one of the passengers.

According to the LTFRB, it is clear from the evidence presented that the driver, conductor, and operator of the said jeep are all responsible.

They emphasized that the driver directly violated RA 1131 or the Safe Spaces Act, known as the “Bawal Bastos Law” within public transportation.

On June 10, the LTFRB filed a show-cause order for a hearing on June 14.

Meanwhile, the agency reminded drivers that they will not ignore such incidents of discrimination.
