Former U.S. President Donald Trump, now the Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential election, announced on Friday that he plans to pursue legal action against Google if he wins the November 5 election. Trump accused the tech giant of manipulating search results to display only negative news about him.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump offered no evidence to support his claims, stating, “It has been determined that Google has illegally used a system of only revealing and displaying bad stories about Donald J. Trump, some made up for this purpose, while at the same time, only revealing good stories about Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris.”
He further claimed that this was an act of “blatant interference of elections” and expressed his hope that the Department of Justice would prosecute Google. If not, Trump vowed, “I will request their prosecution, at the maximum levels, when I win the election, and become president of the United States.”
Google has not yet responded to these accusations. Similar claims were made by Trump in 2019, alleging that Google favored negative stories about him during the 2016 election. Google denied these accusations at the time.
Recently, some of Trump’s supporters have revived these allegations. In July, following an attempted assassination of Trump, Elon Musk accused Google of placing a search ban on the former president in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
