Manila, Philippines — Two Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) in Lebanon died in the hands of their employer during a hostage incident, the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) confirmed.
Based on DMW’s report, the hostage-taking incident happened on April 15 in a residence in Beirut, Lebanon, with the employer fatally shooting the victims.
Both OFWs are long-time household service workers in the residence.
The employer has been arrested and is place under police custody with pending formal charges.
The Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Philippine Embassy in lebanon is currently coordinating with local authorities in regards to the investigation, as well as for the filing of the cases.
DMW expressed condolences to the bereaved family, extending full support and assistance from the government.
The government likewise committed in securing justice for the victims and processing the repatriation of their remains in the earliest time possible.
