Amidst the tension in the Senate premises yesterday night, the Office of the Senate Secretary has formally received the copies of the impeachment articles and its attachments filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
With this, the ball is already at the hands of the Senate, particularly in regards to the conduct of the impeachment trial.
Following these developments, Duterte’ husband Atty. Manases Carpio filed a civil suit against impeachment complainants over damages brought by the case.
Among the respondents of the suit are Fr. Joel Saballa, self-claimed alleged bagman of Duterte Ramil Madriaga, and several individuals implicated as co-conspirators.
Based on the complaint, Carpio argued that the initiation of the impeachment cases have damages the image of the Vice President and his reputation as a lawyer.
Carpio emphasized that the allegations against Duterte are black propaganda and crafted lied to tarnish the Vice President’s image ahead the 2028 Presidential elections.
This is still aside from its damage to his reputation and their legal firms.
For these reasons, Carpio is seeking a P7.3 million suit for such damages.
This includes at least P1 million for the Actual Damages resulting to loss of income and legal opportunities due to the impact of the ongoing impeachment case.
A P3 million suit for Moral Damages for physical suffereings, serious anxiety, and tarnished reputation due to the same circumstances.
Another P3 million for exemplary or corrective damages.
Carpio also seeks for a P300,000 suit to fund the Attorney’s fees and Litigation expenses.—Mia Layaguin, Eurotv News
