Manila, Philippines – The quarantine period of 38 Filipino seafarers aboard the Dutch-flagged vessel MV Hondius, the ship carrying passengers who died of Hantavirus, is set to end on June 18.
According to Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac, the shipowner Oceanwide Expeditions and Wagenborg Licensed Manning Agency themselves confirmed that the 38 Filipino seafarers tested negative for Hantavirus.
The Filipino seafarers also remain asymptomatic, while monitoring their situation continues.
21 Filipino seafarers that are hotel staff of the MV Hondius are amongst first repatriated to the Netherlands.
And then it was followed by the 17 Filipino crew and engine operators of the ship.
However, the company assured that the Filipino seafarers will continue to receive compensation during and after the mandatory 6-week quarantine period.
Cacdac said that not a single Filipino seaman in quarantine has tested positive for the virus that has killed three people.
Although the 38 Filipino crew members want to be evacuated, they must first undergo strict medical clearance and health protocols.
