Atin Ito, Fisherfolk Pushes Declaration of WPS Victory Day

Zambales Philippines – The Atin Ito Coalition, together with the fishermen of Zambales, has come together to pursue the declaration of the National West Philippine Sea Victory Day to be permanently held on July 12.

This is to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the Philippines’ landmark 2016 arbitral ruling, alongside the acknowledgement of the fisherfolks’ and frontliners’ hard work and continuous dedication to defend our nation’s maritime rights.

A symbolic sea ceremony that was held last Sunday, July 5, was designed to be a kickoff for the upcoming weeklong tribute. Additionally, Atin Ito co-convenor Rafaela David said it was also a call to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr to issue an executive order declaring every year the 12th of July National West Philippine Sea Victory Day.

Alongside the group of Atin Ito, different organizations were said to have a partnership in this activity, including the New Masinloc Fishermen Association, the Subic Commercial Fishers Association, and the Samahan ng Cabangaan-3 Fishermen’s Unity.

Apart from the said culminating activity of the commemoration, Atin Ito will also join diplomats, legal luminaries, government leaders, and journalists on July 10 in a forum to be led by the Stratbase Institute.

Furthermore, a West Philippine Sea parade will be held at Puerto Princesa, in collaboration with the provincial government of Palawan and the citizens of the municipality of Kalayaan. – Aliyah Mae Nono, EUROTV News
