Manila, Philippines — The ground breaking ceremony of the cyber security center project inside the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Compound in Valenzuela City has officially begun.
The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by DICT Secretary Henry Aguda, South Korea Ambassador to the Philippines Lee Sang Hwa, representative of the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Philippines, Second District Representative Gerald Galang, and local government officials led by Valenzuela Mayor Wes Gatchalian.
The Cyber Security Center aims to ensure the Philippines’ cyber security response is prudent.
This is the first and largest government cyber security center in the Philippines.
Amid the growth of the Philippines’ digital economy, the need for cyber security is also growing, which is why the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) believes that more cyber security professionals are needed in the country.
South Korea will also send IT professionals to help Filipino ICT personnel develop their skills in the field of cybersecurity.
This is a great help for ICT students in Valenzuela City who will immediately benefit from the said project for knowledge and skills in cyber security.
The grant fund of the Korean International Cooperation Agency Philippines for the project is worth 25.6 Million US Dollars.
The said cyber security center has an area of 3000 square meters.
According to the Korean Envoy, this is a result of the previous visit of South Korean President Lee Jae Myung to the country last month where he and President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. discussed the expanding digital economy and its associated cyber security.
The DICT requested that the said project be completed within two years.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
