Manila, Philippines – The Philippine government are preparing the repatriation of 220 Filipinos who were pardoned in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The release of the Filipinos was announced by the UAE government on December 26, 2024 on the occasion with the country’s 53rd National Day.
According to the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) this is also the result of a conversation with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) are facilitating with the Philippine Embassy for the immediate repatriation of the Filipinos.
The DMW also assured that they will provide comprehensive support to Filipinos, as well as their reintegration in the society under the Bagong Pilipinas of Marcos’ administration.
President Marcos earlier thanked his counterpart in the UAE for granting pardoned to Filipinos.
The DFA and the Philippine embassy in Abu Dhabi have already confirmed that they are preparing the documents and administrative requirements of the Filipinos for their return to the country.
This is not the first time that the UAE government has released Filipinos imprisoned in said country.
In fact in June 2024, 142 Filipinos were released on the occasion of Eid’l Adha or Feast of Sacrifice.
