Manila, Philippines — Following the confirmation of all the grounds of crimes against humanity charges against former Philippine President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, the International Criminal Court Trial Chamber sets the first status conference on May 27 of the present year.
Prior to this, the ICC Trial Chamber IIi orders all parties and participants of the case to submit observations regarding Duterte’s detention.
Among the parties ordered are the Office of the Prosecutor, Counsel for the Defense, Office of Public Counsel for Victims and victims’ legal representatives.
Trial Chamber III noted that the accused’s pre-trial detention shall be reviewed atleast every 120 days.
It added that considering the case developments after the annual hearing on detention review conducted last February, all the parties shall be given opportunity to submit their observations in regards to Duterte’s continued detention or release.
It can be recalled that the defense’s request for an interim release have been rejected twice.
Following the order, all parties shall submit their observations until May 8, 2026.
