Manila, Philippines — Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. has certified as urgent the passage of the bill to postpone the scheduled Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) Parliamentary Elections in May.
MalacaƱang confirmed that Marcos has ordered for the immediate passage of the bill, requiring lawmakers to study the petition at least three days before voting.
This confirmation comes after Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero disclosed that Marcos already had the bill certified as urgent.
Despite the Palace’s confirmation, it was not clarified which version of the bill was certified as urgent.
In the Senate’s version, Senate Bill 2942 has been approved on its second reading, seeking to reschedule the Parliamentary Elections on October 13, 2025.
On the other hand, last December, House of Representatives has passed on third reading the bill to defer BARMM elections to May 2026.
The BARMM elections set on May 2025 along with the midterm elections is supposed to be the first parliamentary elections of the region.
