NEARLY 892 PEOPLE AFFECTED BY HABAGAT, INDAY — DSWD 

MANILA, Philippines  — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) reported that 891,068 individuals, equivalent to 212,767 families, have been affected by the enhanced Southwest Monsoon (Habagat) and Tropical Cyclone Inday, according to the latest Disaster Response Operations Monitoring and Information Center (DROMIC) progress report.

The affected population was recorded in 1,130 barangays across Regions II, III, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, V, VI, NCR, IX, X, XI, XII, and BARMM.

The DSWD said 4,748 families or 20,890 individuals are currently staying in 97 evacuation centers, while 9,883 families or 45,647 individuals are taking temporary shelter outside evacuation facilities.

The agency has distributed ₱61,821,568.49 worth of humanitarian assistance to families affected by the weather disturbance.

To support ongoing response operations, the 

DSWD reported that it has ₱4.88 billion in available relief resources, consisting of ₱568.97 million in Quick Response Funds and ₱4.31 billion worth of food and non-food items ready for deployment.

Damage assessment reports also showed that 727 houses were totally damaged, while 856 houses sustained partial damage due to heavy rains, flooding, and strong winds brought by the enhanced Southwest Monsoon and Tropical Cyclone Inday.

The DSWD continues to coordinate with local government units and partner agencies in delivering relief assistance and maintaining essential services, including psychosocial support, child-friendly spaces, and women-friendly spaces in evacuation centers, as disaster response operations remain ongoing.—Ericka Trinidad, Contributor
