Manila, Philippines – Negotiations for a free trade agreement between the Philippines and the European Union (EU) could potentially conclude in the coming months.
This follows confirmation from the EU Commission on Tuesday, September 22.
The proposed agreement aims to create new opportunities in business, agriculture, investment, and manufacturing, as well as generate jobs for both parties.
The EU also expressed support for the Philippines regarding maritime claims and regional security.
The EU’s statement follows remarks made by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen.
According to the EU official, they also hope to visit the Philippines next year to sign the agreement.
With this agreement, the Philippines would become the third country in Southeast Asia—following Singapore and Vietnam—to secure an FTA with the 27-nation bloc.—Alvin Pelobello, Eurotv News
