THOUSANDS EXPECTED TO JOIN THE OFW-SUMMIT — DMW

Manila, Philippines – Thousands of Overseas Filipino Workers are expected to attend the OFW Summit organized by the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW), which aims to recognize the important role of these modern-day heroes.

The summit will feature various opportunities and activities for OFWs, including a Job Fair for Filipinos seeking employment abroad, a national reintegration program for OFWs who are temporarily and permanently repatriated, seminars and workshops, and more.

According to Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, the flagship program also aims to lay the foundation for social protection for OFWs, as well as safe recruitment for Filipinos.

The DMW also seeks to strengthen standards for the protection and well-being of Filipinos abroad, both sea-based and land-based OFWs.

This includes ensuring that pending bills that will help OFWs are enacted.

Meanwhile, the repatriation of OFWs from the Middle East continues, and Filipino seafarers who were stranded in the Strait of Hormuz are being reassured.

The DMW continues to monitor the condition of the 38 Filipino crew members who were quarantined after being evacuated from the MV Hondius due to the threat of Hantavirus, which has killed three people.

According to the DMW, their quarantine is set to end on June 19.
